The Light Cube, designed by Natalya Koptseva and Vasily Tarasenko, is a unique art installation that uses individually controlled 3D LED modules to create a dynamic, three-dimensional light show. The cube's design is inspired by the suprematist compositions of Kazimir Malevich, particularly his Red Square painting. This installation aims to create a positive impact on viewers through its simple yet powerful imagery, symbolizing progress, development, and innovation.
The Light Cube's uniqueness lies in its ability to create various associations and its dynamic nature. It is not just a luminous sculpture but a city landmark with constantly changing light content. The theme of three-dimensional light continuity wholly depends on the viewer's imagination and fantasy. This installation is a quintessential dynamic sculpture that can change light forms using both static and dynamic themes to create three-dimensional images.
The Light Cube is a technical marvel, made up of individually controlled 3D LED modules. These pixels are mechanically and electrically united into vertical light chains, fastened with cable ropes. The installation spans a volume of 5.7x5.7x12 meters, with LED modules spaced at intervals of 250 mm. The total watt consumption for peak-load conditions is twenty-five kilowatt, making it both a visual and technological spectacle.
Located at the Lukoil headquarters' top in Moscow, Russia, the Light Cube is a unique installation for the country. It serves as a powerful attraction, contributing to the sightseeing attractions of Moscow and enhancing the company's image. The installation was completed in May 2016, and since then, it has been a beacon of art, technology, and innovation in the city.
The Light Cube's design is a result of extensive research into suprematist art, which represents the essence of art, its beginning, and its ending. The installation aims to reveal "pure artistic feelings" through its simple yet powerful design. This approach has helped the Light Cube become a socially oriented product, fostering brand loyalty and serving as a principal magnet of attraction and business streams.
The Light Cube has been recognized for its innovative design and contribution to art and technology. It was awarded Platinum in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, contribute to societal wellbeing, and make the world a better place.
